Liverpool have suffered a major blow as goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to miss out the return leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed this in his pre-match conference revealing that the stopper suffered a muscle injury in training this week.
“Unfortunately, Alisson is out,” Klopp confirmed. “Hurt in training before the Chelsea game. Little incident, we all thought it was nothing.”
According to Klopp the injury was confirmed after a scan was made and the Brazillian stopper is out for a few weeks. Liverpool have a crucial tie against Atletico Madrid as they look to overturn a first-leg deficit at home.
Allison is considered as one of the top goalkeepers in Europe and his exit due to injury is a major blow for the team. Backup stopper Adrian will be expected to deputize for the Brazillian and had previously done so in the early part of the season.
It is expected that Alisson would return to the first-team action after the International break. Liverpool next face Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend as they look to bounce back from recent defeats to Chelsea and Watford.
The Reds are top of the EPL standings 21 points above second-placed Manchester City.
