Liverpool are considering the possibility of extending Dejan Lovren’s contract for a further year if he is still with the club at the end of the summer transfer window. Despite interest from multiple clubs, the club still wants the Croatian international for another season.
Lovren,31, has only made ten appearances in the Premier League this season and finds himself behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the pecking order. Most recently Gomez has partnered Van Dijk in the heart of the defence in the absence of Matip.
Lovren has not started in the league since his poor showing during Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Watford in February. He has featured just once – from the bench against Everton since the Epl resumed in June.
Lovren has many admirers from England and across Europe. As Roma have been linked with the player in the past. Roma made an enquiry about the player’s availability in January but no deal materialized.
West Ham and Newcastle United have also declared their interest in the Croatia international. The Magpies made a last-minute approach for Lovren during the winter transfer window.
